Ibu Rahayu Visits Vietnam for the first time

Ibu Rahayu visited the Subud members in Ho Chi Minh City (or Saigon) in Vietnam from February 24th to March 2nd.
Many young members were present at the talks, testing and gatherings. Some were able to come on the day trip in boats up the Mekong river.
Sharif translated the talks into english and then they had to be translated into Vietnamese by Vietnamese members who had been living overseas and speak English.
It is a real struggle to study as all schooling and university has to be paid for and their is a lack of books and access to computers.
Cars are rare, but the streets are full of motorbikes. The young bike riding women in Saigon wear dashing little 'pork-pie' hats, face masks in fashion colours and long, elegant gloves up to their armpits to keep off the sun - often in co-ordinated colours! If you cant afford a motor bike you have to use a pedal bike.
Many of the younger members speak some English and were keen to talk with the visitors who included Tuti, Muti and Indra plus two Area 1 international helpers; Murray and Mardijah.
The younger people are thirsty for access to more published Subud material and a chance to practice their english. We were able to give them the Subudlife web addresses plus other Subud newsletters. Quite a few of the young people have email addresses but mostly have to use internet cafes which can be costly.
Hopefuly they will be able to make contact with other younger Subud members around the world.
