Death by Boredom - A poem
by Kati age 13

here i lay
inside a coffin
i'm never breathing
much less laughin'

i died of boredom
yes-sir-ee
it is quite possible
take it from me

i wanted to play
perhaps tag or football
but there was nothing to do
nope, nothin' at all

so i sat in my chair
and stared at the floor
when BAM!
i was hit by the squeaky old door

if i had not been bored
oh yes, it's true
heck, i'd be livin'
just like you.

Her presence filled my feelings as it met me each morning.
Sultry was her look as it poured all around me.
A chain of tenderness linked our lives.
Real was our relationship.
Shared were our goals.
Rich was our world.
Inured was our bond.

The dank silence in the cold isolated room that is my flat.
The effortless locomotion of life outside seperate from the place I find myself now.
The tastelessness of my food.
The hollowness of my daily activity.
My mind tosses and turns trying to be relieved of her memory.
Violent is my loneliness.
Silent is my soul.
Pain is my roommate, solace is my foe.
Tired is my grief what comes next one only knows…

Epitaph for Sargon Sludge.

He who was born John Sludge is dead.
It happened in Gympie. He died alone.
An unmarked grave to lay his head.
There is no elaborate gravestone.

His Subud brothers and sisters
Mentioned his passing after latihan
In a game of Chinese Whispers,
But then their lives moved on.

Sargon, a rather intense, solitary man,
Found that angels bore him up and up
To the fabled Pearly Gates of Heaven,
St Peter invited him inside to sup.

Everything he never really understood,
All pain, all the loneliness and suffering,
Seems over now and only good,
love and joy seem to be ongoing.

Meanwhile, his Subud siblings down below
Appear to move in a morbid sort of trance,
As about their petty, selfish lives they go,
Without anything about which to dance.

Reader, let Sargon Sludge’s story be a lesson,
Despite what appears life’s seeming adversity,
It is not over til death comes as the final session,
After which we are dependent on God’s Mercy.

So do not boast of your great spirituality
To bloat your ego and deride others
Because when you too look for mercy
You may get your marching orders.
