The zone 2/4 boundaries on the map are wrong. The central Asian countries formerly in the USSR should be in Zone four, in particular Uzbekistan, where there are actually Subud groups, should be in zone 4 not zone 2.

Also, I believe that the 3 Area's do resemble George Orwell's '1984'. In that book those zones are in war, without people can actually notice it. Now there's an economical war taking place indeed. But I think we are even a stage further than in '1984'.

Maybe someone can provide this forum with a 'organigram'; that is a diagrammic drawing of subud-bodies?

I share Lucas's curiosity of the splits in Europe and Asia. Zones 3 and 4 seem to represent the split between the Western and Eastern Roman Empire! Zone 3 represents Catholic Europe plus Anglican Britain, whilst Zone four gets Protestant central Europe plus Orthodox Europe and the Byzantine East Mediterranean. On the other hand, Zone 2 seems to encompass the three great ancient civilisations of Asia, the Persian Empire, Vedic India and Imperial China. Zone 1 has all the Pacific island nations.

I think the map is meant to represent the underlining cultural identities in the world. It is neither a spiritual map nor a political one - otherwise it would make no sense to have Zone 2 with a population of 3 billion and zone 8 with less than 100 million.

West and East, very roughly Franophone and Anglophone Africas. East incorporates South - English.

Estou muito arrependido a todo o Portuguese de tome de Sao e para Principe, Biassu de Guniea, Mozambiqe e Angola!

Y arrepentido a ésos de español Sahara Occidental que habla.

One day it will be more akin to actual Africa, not just the colonial unifying languages. What a gloriously in-touch day that will be......

So how does Africa divide into zones five and six? Is is just North and South? The map doesn't show.

Except in Risk, the regions are dividedd into geographical continents, with the Ural mountain range dividing Europe and Asia, in the traditional way.

The Subud division of Europe is interesting - It looks as though Communist Soviet Union is alive and kicking....and has successfully invaded most of Europe! Shocked

I didn't mean the Risk comment as some tongue-in-cheek criticism or anything, what I meant was:

Open up a game of Risk. Look at the board. It is almost identical. (You get more points for capturing groups of countries, and the groupings are almost identical to the Subud zones!)

Who drew this map? I dig the Pink! Hmmmm..... Do we all notice how "Zone 2" fits neatly into China.

Anyway, does anyone know how the Zones+Areas were conceived, was it solely by Bapak's feeling? How was it all decided after this????

Subud Life will soon create/get hold of some kind of WSA organisational chart/structure diagram very soon.

In the mean time, any relevant gripping stories from the Oldies amongst us???

Wow - zones 3 & 8 are so small!

I wonder why Bapak decided to split Europe in half between Germany and France and make Indonesia and Japan part of Australia. That seems a little odd. I never knew about the 3 Areas - what significance does that have, I wonder?

It's true that maps are wonderfully inspiring things. I have a luminous globe by my bed, and I tend to look at Iraq before I go to sleep at the moment, and it all seems surreal, how history unfolds in such horror - if we could only step back as one and see what we do each day.... Like a god looking down on my luminous globe, it seems so odd that mankind can't rise above our spiritual smallness and realise our divinity. But I guess in a way we really are that small. Shocked Well, I'm not of course, but the masses I mean. Wink

Hardly Risk!

That is great game, but its not like that.

This is a map that we as Subud members should stick on a wall at home. We should dream about what it represents and what it can represent.

What each zone in all its marvellous diversity can symbolise both in potential and beautiful actuality.

If we all knew what already exists in Subud, I believe we would be touched and inspired to do something magnificent.

Hi everyone,

just going through my old hard disk and found this map someone did of all the zones and areas we so often talk about in Subud. I thought I'd post it up as I know loads of people in Subud don't know how it works... including myself Laughing

I have a better quality version if any body would like... pm or email me.
