All A Brief Summary of Ramadan
Posted by HarunKennedy
Sunday, September 24, 2006

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic Lunar calendar. It begins with the sighting of the new moon after which all those of physically mature and healthy being are expected to abstain from all food, drink, and any kind of sexual contact between dawn and sunset. However, that is merely the physical component of the fast. The aspects of one's behaviour one needs to be aware of include refraining from gossiping, lying, slandering and all traits of bad character; all unnecessary sights and sounds are to be avoided and a purity of thought and action is paramount. The fast is an exacting act of deeply personal worship in which God is to be ever more at the centre of one's feelings, thoughts and actions. The act of fasting redirects the heart away from worldly activities, reduces one's daily tempo and draws one towards The Divine.

Over the month of Ramadan it is a time for spiritual reflection, prayer, doing good deeds and spending time with family and friends. The month' s fasting is intended to help teach oneself, self-discipline, self-restraint as well as to help oneself build a greater awareness of the forces that are around our beings all the time and how we ourselves can interact with them in a more harmonious way. It also reminds oneself of the suffering of those less fortunate than ourselves and the generosity that we can all share with others. Ramadan like Christmas is a time to spend with friends and family, the fast will often be broken by different families and friends coming together to share in an evening meal.

The last ten days of Ramadan are a time of special spiritual power as everyone tries to come closer to God through devotion and an improved state. The night on which the Quran was revealed to the Prophet, known as the Night of Power (Lailat ul-Qadr), is generally taken to be the 27th night of the month. Therefore many spend the entire night in quiet and open state of prayer.

As the month of Ramadan draws to a close, there is a search in the sky for the next full moon. When the full moon is sighted the three-day festival of Eid- (happiness) Ul-Fitr (breaking the fast) is ushered in.

Dear Sweet Audience

Esaias Hobbs here with news on SUBUD RADIO.

We now have the ability to record shows using far lower memory than ever before which means that the LISTEN AGAIN function will be up and running in the very near future

I am looking to resume broadcasting from another location in Brighton this week so keep your ears open for our breakfast show.

Any subud related news please email esaias@theacupunctureworks.co.uk in the short term as the radio@subudlife.com is at present unaccessible to me.

Also check the programme schedule for a re-broadcast of Desert Island Discs recorded at British Congress 2006.

Our next aim is to create a 'Listen in Wednesday' where we will broadcast from numerous locations around the Globe for 24 hours.

Don't forget to listen into Leo's show tonight, it's bound to be yet another Cultural Delight!

All Subud Radio Broadcasting Live from British Congress 20th - 27th August 2006
Posted by EsaiasHobbs
Saturday, August 19, 2006

The 2006 British Congress has arrived and for the first time Subud Radio will be taking an active part! Many of the youth will be gearing up their I-Pods with microphones to get the low-down on congress activities – a great chance to be generally nosey and perhaps interrupt the 'Oh so long-awaited inner quiet' we’ve all been hoping for!

We will be broadcasting everyday from 20.30 to 23.00 GMT+1, so if you can’t make it to congress, you don’t have to miss out at all!

From Monday to Friday [except Wednesday] we will be broadcasting our very own version of “Desert Island Discs” from 21.00 – 22.00 GMT+1 live from the Litchfield Common Room. Each evening a different person will take you on a journey through their lives, accompanied by appropriate music.

On Wednesday from 21.00 – 0.00 we will be broadcasting our infamous poetry evening hosted by yours truly.

If you have a Mac then click the listen live icon at the top left part of the screen, if you have a PC you will need Realplayer.

Go to www.realplayer.com
1) Choose the tab on the top called “Realplayer”
2) Click on the right hand side “Download Now” under the “or get our basic free player…” title (You don’t need to register but if you want to or cannot find a way of proceeding without registering then go ahead).
3)Then click the Subud Radio listen live icon on www.subudlife.com at the top of the screen on the left hand side. You may be asked which program you wish to associate the radio stream with, in which case choose Realplayer.

If you would like to join in live on the radio, you can do so via SKYPE (www.skype.com – just follow instructions).
Add subudradio to your Skype contact list and we can talk to you live on air! (Although we do ask that you use the Skype chat function in the first instance and allow us to call you; if you ring straight through you may be interrupting music, poetry or an interview!

Emails as always should be sent to radio@subudlife.com

Subudlife – Your life – Get a Life!

Catch you at congress live on air!

Esaias Hobbs
