Subud Writers JOURNEY ON

JOURNEY ON
by Ismail Fido.

There is no shortage of bar room philosophers in Australia.

From the intellectuals of Parkville and Camperdown to the battlers of Lakemba and Lightning Ridge they solve the worlds problems.

Talk, talk, talk. Like rats. Gnaw, gnaw, gnaw.

Ancestors abroad did the same.

Wars, pogroms, plagues, famine. Their empty talk could not stem those.

“ Is there no hope then? “

Light breaks in Glastonbury, Rome, Jerusalem, Mecca, Delhi, Jakarta and Sydney. At different times but light is the same. Here and everywhere. Now and in Brisbane.

“ Lighten our darkness we beseech Thee O Lord “.

Outside the church the lecher, the drunk and the druggie go about their business.

Can you find God, or Truth, in Ecstasy?

“ What kind of ecstasy ? “

In tekkes* from Albania to Cairo they once whirled. Like Jalalludin. Not today’s tourist show. Sincerely. In order. Like planets round a sun. Like souls around God.

It took Shams of Tabriz – supposedly “ mad “ – to bring Rumi from scholarship to understanding. I would like to meet such a madman!

Bernhard Meister recounts stories of Cilandak and Sudarto 40 years ago after every latihan. If anyone else speaks he raises his voice a few decibels.

The curtain rises. The performance begins. Again.

Hank Marvin – Bernhard’s bosom buddy for years – listens entranced.

Siegfried Glockenspiel is to extend – on Lottery Commission money – the latihan hall.

Do all the renovations make us a better and happier group ?

“ Nearer, my God, to Thee. “

“ The ladies are to descend on the kitchen. “

“ I can’t wait. “

“ Really? “

The ladies descend, intent on tea and conversation. To beam at the favoured few. I move towards the exit door. They find me uninteresting.

Praise God! I can escape.

Subud Youth New Years Eve party in London
Posted by louise
Thursday, December 16, 2004
Youth in association with SICA have put together an evening of fun, dancing and entertainment to celebrate this coming New Years Eve at the Amadeus Centre in London. We have quite a tempting line up, so I hope that you will join us to welcome the new year in. Lucas Adamson will be our compere for the evening

Classical ensemble: Rosada Davies and friends

Sanderson Topham, Hayward Slater and Adrienne Thomas

Rock and Roll band

DJ Marilyn Hahan, for cool grooves after midnight.

'Favours' Auction. Feel free to offer yourself to be auctioned; an easy way to both raise money for a worthy cause, and also do good things for somebody else. All by just being yourself, an honourable way to start the year!

For the small £12 entrance fee (£6 if you help us!), you will also receive a lovely glass of bubbly when the new year rolls in.

We do need some help behind the bar, to be in the auction and on the door, so offers to come to our rescue are really welcome.

All my love

Louise

All Do you know about Make A Wish?

Dearest Subud Members,

The Innsbruck World Congress (July 21 – August 4, 2005) is now just eight months away. As with members from all over the world, you may already be thinking ahead to next July and beginning to make your plans. I want to let you know about the bold initiative underway to help support young members living in developing areas of the world get to Congress too.

The Make a Wish fund, as described on http://worldcongress2005.com, is the vehicle for this effort. It is the fundraising part of the international “We’re all Going” project.

We often talk about the “growth of Subud” in abstract terms. The “We’re all Going” project has a real plan to advance growth by harnessing the energy and enthusiasm of younger members from all around the world to come to Innsbruck and once there, to participate fully in this huge gathering’s activities. Like “leaven in the loaf”, the young members’ experiences at Congress will help revitalize Subud life in themselves and in their far-flung centres.

For the many younger members living in developing countries where going to Austria would not be possible without some support, the Make a Wish fund will be the vehicle to help make their participation a reality. How will the Make a Wish fund work? Using the
http://youth.worldcongress2005.com site, young members who are seeking help to
attend the Congress will register; willing sponsors will use the same site
to make donations. This "We're All Going" youth website is a hub for our
communication for ALL youth going to Innsbruck. The Make a Wish fund has
the support and endorsement of the World Subud Council and the Muhammad
Subuh Foundation (MSF).

The Muhammad Subuh Foundation (MSF) is supporting the Make a Wish fund with a challenge grant that means for every $3 raised, MSF will give $1 USD towards the fund.
